Difficult airway management in a patient with upper airway obstruction due to alkali ingestion: A case report

Ingestion of alkaline substances can cause mucosal damage and upper airway obstruction, which is a serious potentially fatal complication. An 80-year-old patient ingested small amount liquid presented to our hospital with burning sensations in the throat. Within two hours arrival, edema epiglottis rapidly worsened excessive secretion, resulting obstruction. We attempted intubate using fiberoptic bronchoscopy followed by successful intubation video laryngoscope. Alkali ingestion obstruction secretion. A laryngoscope may be alternative tool for tracheal such situation especially case failed bronchoscopy. • Upper within few hours. Intubation not recommended situation.
